2010 Toyota Corolla Review: Worry-Free and Long Lasting But Expensive Compact Sedan

A good year for the Corolla, with a used price range of $7,293 to $10,903. Fewer problems than the older models, and a great reliability score give the car a long-lifespan of over 250,000 miles.

VehicleHistory Image

Long-term reliability ratings are outstanding, the technology is good for the year, and the cabin is comfortable.

The driving experience is boring compared to other compact cars, interior materials are cheap, and the steering is disconnected feeling to drive.

2010 Toyota Corolla: Quick Overview

  • We rate the current reliability as very good, agreeing with J.D. Power's great rating when the car was new. There are no major mechanical problems as the car has aged.
  • Two 4-cylinder engine choices are available. The base engine is efficient, and the one found in the XRS model is more fun to drive.
  • Fuel economy is good for the class, ranking 4th out of 29 compact cars from 2009 with a combined rating of up to 30 miles per gallon.
  • Safety ratings are great for a compact car with a 4 out of 5 star rating in government crash tests and a Top Safety Pick Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
  • Consumer Reports found the Corolla to be a pleasant and refined compact car with high owner satisfaction.
  • The 2010 Toyota Corolla ranks 4th out of 29 compact cars based on owner reviews. With good long-term reliability and low ownership costs, the 2010 model earns our recommendation.

All - inclusive family car.

Interior is spacious, good size car-not big or small, while on the road the outside noise is very minimal, gas saver, great commute car, variety of colors to choose from, Toyota is a reliable company, always had luck with my cars, I have only owned Toyotas.

It's a great car and great on gas

I love the size I'm only 4'11 and it fits my needs. It's good on gas It's still roomy

It is reliable: I have had no major problems since I bought it in 2012.

It is reliable and fairly fuel efficient. Also easy to drive and maintain. I think it is a nice looking car. Toyota's retain their value.

Cost efficient and reliable

My Corolla is compact but still large enough to carry cargo. It also seats 4 -5 people comfortably. It doesn't require a lot of costly maintenance. It does well using gasoline.

It is efficient, low maintenance, and reliable.

I like my car because it is reliable, efficient, and safe.It costs little to maintain and gets great gas mileage. It does the job I need it to do, which is to get me from home to work and back safely.

It drives well and gets good gas mileage

I love my Corolla. It drives well and has been a new car. The only problem I have with it is it needs a lot more minor maintenance than any of the other cars I have owned

My car is very safe and very dependable

I like It's compact size and durability. I also like it being low maintenance. There is nothing i dislike

Love my Corolla would purchases another one.

Love the 2010 Corolla. I have never had any major issues with it, the only complaint is that it has had a lot of recalls. The dealer always handles them asap. I would purchased another Corolla, I will also drive this car till the wheels fall off. Love it.

Negative Owner Reviews

Toyota corolla performance rating.

I like that my car gets good gas mileage. I hate how small the inside is. I have had my car for 10 years and have not had anything seriously wrong with it yet. I like that it's black. I wish it was a bit bigger than it is now. Very easy to drive. I would give this car an 8 rating.

Just okay - not good for families and snow, good for a single person.

Super small and not good for families (car seats, not enough room for travel, etc). It is also really bad in the snow. That being said I'd say it is an okay option for a single person. It rarely breaks down and the trunk size is decent. Just would not recommend for families or winter climates.

Worst car from the batch.

Keeps breaking down. Loved it in the beginning but brake pads need replaced every month it seems. At 5 years old I had to replace my alternator and my transmission. Almost every corolla I see has fender damage. As it is completely weak material. Trunk is broken as well.

Surprise. Handles well in rain and snow.

Does not drive well on freeway. Car feels like wind gets under body and weaves back-and-forth. Difficult to judge parameters when parking in space or parallel parking. Uses a lot of gas. Trunk is too small. Body paint is cheap -does not look good and I park in a carport.

Exterior of the car is made very poorly, radio. Wiring done very poorly.

This car has been a nightmare! The weather stripping has deteriorated! The airbags were recalled and they messed up my dashboard. The radio has had to be replaced 4 x and is showing signs of a 5th time! The paint is coming off despite how I maintain it. The exterior was made very poorly. The tinting had to be replaces and as they do these repairs..My car has been scratched etc.

It's a bad car don't buy it

I hate it. It works horribly and the breaks lag and scare me

Still looks brand new, holds 5 people

Wheel bearings needs to be fixed, needs new brakes, 4 doors, window tint, aux player hard to use, burn holes in seat

It is dependable and durable. It is good value for the money.

I like that it has low miles on it.. I dislike that it smells weird inside and it loud when it is running..

What Problems Does the 2010 Toyota Corolla Have?

There are an average number of complaints on the Toyota Corolla compared to other compact cars from 2010. There are significant improvements from the 2009 model, but the 2011 version is better with a quarter of the complaints for only $1,000 more.

Chipping and fading paint is a very common complaint from owners of cars with over 55,000 miles on them. Failing paint is typically caused by curing issues, excessive sun exposure, or chips from rocks and debris in the road. The only solution is repainting the affected areas, costing about $1,000 per panel.

Power steering problems are another issue, with failures happening around 70,000 miles in some cars. The power steering system wears out over time, and the only way to fix the problem is by installing a new unit. A new steering rack costs over $1,500, depending on local labor rates.

Excessive brake noise is a frequent problem which happens to some vehicles every 25,000 miles. The pads and rotors tend to wear out quickly compared to other cars, and require replacement. New pads and rotors cost about $500 to install.

The Corolla has 17 recalls, which is substantially more than other cars from 2010. The recalls include warning labels, brake vacuum, the accelerator pedal, trim panel clips, occupant sensing system, air bags, seat heater electrical wiring, and power window switches. Since most of the recalls cover warning labels and airbags, free replacement by the dealer eliminates any concern.

How Much is the 2010 Toyota Corolla Worth?

Blue book prices range from $7,293 to $10,903 making the Corolla more expensive than most other compact cars including the Civic, and Mazda3. When new, the price range was $15,450 to $20,150. How Long Will the 2010 Toyota Corolla Last?

Regular maintenance will  help the 2010 Toyota Corolla last over 250,000 miles, which is longer than some competitors. Repair Pal estimates the regular annual maintenance costs to be about $332, which is $50 cheaper than the Civic and $150 lower than a Sentra.

As the 2010 Corolla ages reaching over 125,000 miles, there are some parts owners should be prepared to replace. These include the air conditioning evaporator for $850, the alternator costing $400, and the steering knuckle assembly which costs about $600.

We have had this car for 5 years. It has been a great car. The only things we have done are get a new battery, replace the brakes, and a new starter. That is really good for a nine year old car.

It is very reliable. I have had no problems with the car. Only small cosmetic, but even those are not bad. I have been rear ended twice and only one left a mark, but neither left a dent because it always just popped back out.

Yes the Toyota corolla s is a very reliable and affordable car it also is a little bit nicer since it is the sportier version and a little bit faster.

No real problems. I have had a few issues with flat tires periodically, but no major work has been needed.

Very reliable, very sporting looking car though. Does not take much gas money. No it does not have any problems. Very great car.

Very reliable, I haven't had any serious problems with it. The radio could be updated with a nicer one but not a big deal.

It has been reliable. It did have several problems, including that whole Takata airbag fiasco, but all of the recall issues have been addressed. At the moment is does have two warning lights, tire pressure and maintenance needed, that will not go off.

It is very reliable and has no problems. It has around 125,000 miles on it and runs like it did when my parents first bought it.

How Does the 2010 Toyota Corolla Compare to Other Cars?

Ranking 4th out of 29 compact cars, based on owner reviews, the 2010 Toyota Corolla is near the top of the class.

One of the closest competitors is the more affordable Honda Civic. The Civic offers more powerful engine choices, and fewer quality complaints. Where the Corolla comes out ahead is with a smoother suspension, and better technology. Overall, the Civic is the winner with fewer complaints, but the cars are very close.

My Toyota corolla is going to exceed a normal person's expectation.

My car is a great car because it is reliable, it gets good gas mileage and it is dependable. I have had no real problems with it. I intend to keep driving it for a long time more. I expect it will last me another 10 years or more. My last Toyota corolla lasted almost 19 years and I am hoping to achieve the same with my present car.

Love this car! Have had very little problems throughout the years.

Super reliable, have had very minor issues within the last 10 years and most due to lack of maintenance. Have driven all over Houston and still drives well. After 10 years it is finally starting to look aged and I will consider buying a new car in the next 5 years.

Toyota corolla review and summary.

The performance of the vehicle is really good. It is a little old but it works very well. It does not take up much gas and the wheels are perfectly aligned. It requires minimal service but sometimes it can be slow. It is comfortable but it is not suitable if you have a large family.

Great car! Excellent driving/mpg. Airbag recall inconvenient.

I love my car! It drives well, the turn radius is amazing, gas mileage is still great, even after 10 years. Have only ever had to make minor repairs. The stereo has started to go out on the display and the aux port does not work very well, but that is an easy fix. The only downside is the airbag recall, which I still need to get fixed, it is just so inconvenient.

Super small and not good for families (car seats, not enough room for travel, etc). It is also really bad in the snow. That being said I'd say it is an okay option for a single person. It rarely breaks down and the trunk size is decent. Just would not recommend for families or winter climates.

The amazing Toyota corolla.

The car has been working great for 10 years. This Toyota corolla has been extremely reliable and has not given us any breakdowns or broken parts. Overall just a great car. When the car was purchased, there was tint added to every window and since the day of purchase, it wasn't until recently, 10 years after purchase, that the tint started to peel and that is just absolutely amazing considering that tint is only supposed to last a year to two years.

The corolla review-an excellent vehicle.

The automobile is very reliable. We only have to perform basic maintenance on the corolla. It has a very smooth ride. For a small car is very comfortable and has a surprising amount of hauling capacity when the back seats are pulled up. The gas mileage has been very good.

Best vehicle I have owned!!

I have a white Toyota corolla that I purchased after a major vehicle accident. It has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It is paid for and I will continue to drive it as long as I can. I have never needed anything major replaced and it always passes inspection. It is amazing in the snow and I always feel safe in it. The only recent 'problem' has been a recall on the airbags.

The best car for any parking spot!

My vehicle is a great and reliable car. I have had the car for more than 4 years and it has been very reliable. The car handles all types of weather well. Even in the snow, it handles traction and everything very well. I have had no problems with this car. The only problems were related to the tires which had more to do with the construction around my home rather than the car itself. I love how smooth the vehicle drives and accelerates. The car also handles hills and mountain roads well for being a small car. The size of this car is perfect for parking in any spot!

This car is a good commuter car. Small but not to small.

I love this vehicle for summer time driving. It's a very light car so wind, water, and slush will make you go all over the road. The o2 sensor is going out so it throws off codes, for instance its throwing off my traction control. The car runs great and is a good first car. My car is a blue color its has a small spoiler.

Toyota corolla: functional but not perfect.

For the purposes of getting me from place to place, my car is perfect. However, sometimes the radio does not change stations or play correctly, and the paint chipped very quickly. Sometimes the air conditioner also acts up. Otherwise, I am very happy with my vehicle.

Reliable little car, gets great mileage, really good value and it serves a multitude of purposes (passengers, light cargo, good amount of space), not too expensive to maintain, as long as its regularly checked out and oil is changed, will last you a long time if you take care of it.

I love my Toyota corolla. It is very dependable with great gas mileage. It is comfortable to drive. I have almost 170k miles on it and still runs great. My only real complaint is with the paint. The clear coat is peeling like a bad sunburn, so I have to get my car repainted.

Fun to drive and extremely reliable.

Honestly the only thing I have had go wrong with my Toyota in 70k miles is the ac compressor breaking, and the radio display going bad. The radio didn't even bother me because it gave me a reason to upgrade to a stereo with Bluetooth. However the ac clutch coming apart at 60k miles on the car is a little strange as I have never even heard of that happening before. Other than those problems the car has been amazing. Great gas mileage, good power for a small car, and it handles well.

Overall really good and reliable car. I have had to replace some coils but that is with any car. I have some fuse issues and only one of my cigar lighters works but overall great car. It is a lighter body so the gas is pretty cheap to fill up but the tank is not huge either. Do not have to worry about it feeling too heavy because of the body but it does add a different driving experience.

My car for the most part works well. I have had some issues in the past with braking but it is only broken down once due to a battery issue. Overall, it is a very reliable car in the 6 years that I have had it. The seats are pretty comfortable but they stain really easily. It can speed up relatively quickly and has never given out. The radio was really outdated and so are the speakers so replacing those is pretty important. It also does not have a way to plug in your phone anywhere which can be solved as well by adding that yourself. Very reliable and economic car. The front seats are comfortable, but the back seats are not. Good gas mileage. It also has good acceleration for a four cylinder. Simply an all-around great small car.

This is very nice, reliable, comfortable, and inexpensive car. It is quiet on the highway, and comfortable. Bulletproof reliability. Cheap to maintain and great on gas. Many people say the 4 speed automatic is old and outdated, but take another look. That is right, the corolla is just about the most fuel efficient in it is class, according to consumer reports. So, yes, a 5 speed auto would be better, but the 4 speed auto still beats just about all the other cars in this class, and it is very quiet. The engine and transmission are proven ultra-reliable for an automatic. There is no secret what the corolla is and always has been about: reliability and value. The material are not cheap feeling as in other cheaper economical cars.

The main problem with my vehicle is that the door buttons don't work. There's certain things about the driving around the complicated. Other than that I guess the car is outdated and that is why certain stuff didn't not work well. I think that a mechanic could fix those things.

I drive this dark green thang.

Sometimes the place where you put your key gets stuck and you have to do a whole shimmy with it. Does not have the fast acceleration of some bigger cars, but gets you where you need to go. Getting maintenance for it is pretty easy as well. Sound system is decent as well. Spacious trunk for covid grocery runs.

Reliable but not comfortable.

This was my first car that I ever bought and it has done its job. I bought it with 60k miles on it and only just hit 100k. With how she's been running I expect her to run for a long time to come. The only downside is the seats. This car was not made to be very comfortable, just reliable.

2010 Toyota corolla s review.

Radio is outdated, no Bluetooth feature. Mechanically car seems to be sound. Could be better as far as design. Seats have manual adjustments. Gas mileage is pretty good. Trunk space is decent. Fair amount of room, however taller people may be slightly uncomfortable. Not a lot of leg space for those over 6 ft.

Toyota corolla is the way to go. Safe, reliable, and style.

I have had this car since high school. It was the perfect size, look, and reliability factors that I needed as a new driver. I drive often for work now and my car has given me little issues, despite the mileage that I put on it for work. I am very comfortable driving my car and I do love the sport model.

My Toyota corolla is the most amazing first vehicle I have ever driven.

The only issues I encountered with my vehicle were a couple of recalls to my passenger airbag and windows. Performance wise of my vehicle is pretty great as well. My vehicle is very reliable and it always gets me where I want to be. A feature on my vehicle is I replaced the exhaust.

Gas saving vehicle with good quality!

Minor problems with performance just wish it wouldn't slide so much when it rains or snow. The comfort is great, especially in the front. The reliability is also pretty good, I always recommend getting a Toyota! It is also really good on gas and that saves me a lot of money too.

The most reliable car - 2010 Toyota corolla.

Great reliable car. I have had my Toyota corolla for over a decade. It is never let me down. It is been through a car accident and still is by my side. It was originally a gift, as I started college. It is been my car through all of my 20's. This is a great choice for anyone at any stage of life.
